Madison County: H1N1 Flu Information
Madison County Judge Art Henson and the Madison County Office of Emergency Management want residents to be aware of the current situation with the H1N1 flu. We have been working closely with local, regional, state and federal personnel to coordinate prevention and response activities, and to get pertinent information out to the residents of Madison County.
Emergency Plans have been reviewed, contacts have been made, contingencies have been planned, conference calls have been conducted, and we are working closely with our Health officials, schools and employers. We are following the protocols suggested at this time and will continue to provide public information through emails, phone calls, press releases, and meetings.
There are no travel restrictions in place at this time; there are only recommendations to limit travel to and from Mexico.
Basic good hygiene is highly recommended to help avoid the spread of this virus. Social distancing may be practiced as is practical. Please consider the risk/benefit balance of meeting with groups in close proximity. Patients may be running fever or having other symptoms before they are aware that they are contagious. Therefore, anyone exhibiting flu like symptoms is urged to stay home, following guidelines posted on www.texasflu.org. This website should be checked frequently for the most up-to-date information available. Additional precautions are also urged by the Center for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) that should be followed. Citizens should also seriously consider being vaccinated against this flu and the seasonal flu this year. Recommendations are also posted on www.texasflu.org.
A Call Center has been established to answer questions and address concerns of the general public. Citizens may call 1-888-777-5320 for more information.
Madison County citizens may request to be included on an Email notification service provided by the Office of Emergency Management. To begin receiving emails related to emergency management, weather, public safety, and disasters, please send a request by email to emc@madisoncountytx.org.
